PAPHOS MUNICIPALITY - EXPECTED REVENUE OF €1 million DUE TO SMART PARKING

Filenews 28 December 2021 - by Dora Christodoulou

The Municipality of Paphos estimates based on its studies and plans that with the application of the innovative smart parking technology that will be put into operation in 2022, the revenues of the municipal authority from parking within the municipal boundaries will soar beyond             €1 million per year. This is a major upgrade of the financial data of the Municipality, it is pointed out, if we take into account that so far the benefit from municipal parking spaces ranges from €200-300,000.

This financial injection into the municipal funds is considered by the competent authorities of the Municipal Megaron as a given, since already the infrastructure for the operation of smart parking in all organized parking spaces in the Municipality of Paphos has now been completed and within a period of a few months in them will have been placed and the necessary system for their operation in a smart way.

The company in charge of the project has already installed the sensors of the smart management system in the parking lots and in the parking spaces in the city. The project of installing and maintaining a smart parking management system has a total budget of approximately €916,000 and will have a duration of seven months for its supply, installation and operation and eight years for its maintenance. It is implemented in full coordination with the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy and has been selected for funding from the European Funds.

The project involves the management of 3,300 parking spaces in organized areas and bystands using sensors at each location. The sensor subsoil will recognize that a vehicle has been parked at that point and will send a signal to the management system. There, it will be revealed whether the payment of the relevant fee was made electronically and if not, a signal will be sent after a few minutes to the traffic policemen of the Municipality of Paphos that in the specific numbered position a vehicle has been parked for which the relevant fee has not been paid.

There will be a mobile application through which the public will be informed about the available parking spaces at their points of interest when approaching a parking area, the distance that is the nearest available parking point, as well as the payment of parking fees.
