OMICRON MUTATION - THESE ARE THE FIVE SYMPTOMS OF THE NEW VARIANT

 Filenews 22 December 2021

While the scientific community is trying to decode the secrets of the "Omikron" variant that is spreading rapidly around the world, South African and British doctors who study the course of health of patients infected with the new strain, identify some differences compared to its other strains.

As the British newspaper "Express" writes, the symptoms of the new variant "Omikron" may be slightly different from the other variants of the coronavirus .

As soon as South African doctors announced that they had identified a new variant of the coronavirus different from the others, state and government governments immediately mobilized with scientists focusing on the genetic sequence of the new variant, which in many countries tends to become the dominant one.

According to doctors who observe the symptoms of patients infected with the variant "Omikron", they have already identified five particular symptoms:

1.Feeling that the neck has scratches (unlike sore throat)

2.Dry cough

3.Incredible fatigue

4.Mild muscle aches

5.Night sweats

Professor Angelique Coeji, head of the South African Medical Association, who was one of the first scientists to identify the strain "Omikron" in her country, claimed patients infected with the new variant, showed different symptoms compared to the variant "Delta".

The British doctor Gary Bartlet moves on the same wavelength, pointing out that the patient infected with the Omikron variant feels that he has something like scratches on his neck.

In addition, persistent fatigue, muscle aches, and even night sweats, could all be signs of infection from the variant "Omikron", as he explains.

"Initially, the symptoms of patients infected with the variant 'Omikron' may appear milder compared to those infected with the Variant 'Delta'. "Omikron" may well cause the known common symptoms, such as stuffy nose and runny nose, fever, persistent cough (cough for more than half a day) headache and pain in swallowing as well as anosmia and fatigue", argues the British scientist.

"The symptoms that may be more indicative of 'Omikron' include a strange feeling that the throat has scratches as opposed to sore throat (which patients who are usually affected by other variants of the coronavirus) dry persistent cough, excessive fatigue, muscle aches and night sweats," he adds.

He also stresses that, these may be the first and only symptoms of patients. "It can be difficult to distinguish between Covid 19 and the common cold without a molecular test (PCR)," he points out.

Since November, when cases of the Omikron variant were first detected in Britain, health authorities have recorded at least five thousand cases.
