The works for the creation of the "Psarochorio" in the core of Kato Pafos are essentially completed, but the operation of this enriching project and its "acquaintance" with visitors has not yet been done on a massive scale. The reason for this is the consequences that the pandemic has brought to all aspects of our everyday life, but also the fact that its operation is in direct combination with the adjacent project of the redevelopment of the archaeological sites of Kato Pafos.
With the projects having already begun to "run" at a satisfactory pace and with their completion being considered certain with the new year, Psarochorio is also preparing to be "introduced" to the Cypriot citizens in the first phase and to the thousands of tourists of Pafos when normality returns and with it the tourist flow to the island. In recent days, municipal officials of Pafos have highlighted their optimism on the issue, who also pointed out that the completion of the works in the traditional core of Kato Pafos for the creation of the "Psarochorio", resulted in the discovery of a number of illegalities and irregularities, which have now been lifted by the crews of the Municipality of Pafos.
At the same time, the fact that in this traditional residential core most of the plots were separated by makeshift structures or walls that have been demolished in the context of the redevelopment, prompted the municipal authority to proceed with the execution of works for the proper separation of properties, so that the next tourist season of '22 would offer the project without "collateral damage" in terms of aesthetics and impressions.
The redevelopment concerns the area that extends around the Column of Apostle Paul up to the central avenue of Apostolou Pavlou. The cost of the redevelopment and embellishment of the area amounts to €700,000 and includes, among other things, a radical improvement of the road network and generally embellishment and provision of various facilities in the wider area.
