KARAGIANNIS - CONCERN OVER INCREASED HOSPITALISATIONS OF UNVACCINATED

Filenews 16 December 2021 - by Rafaela Dimitriadi

The fact that 83% of coronavirus patients hospitalized in hospitals are unvaccinated raises strong concerns in the scientific community and recalls the urgent need to increase vaccination coverage, according to the member of the epidemiological team, Dr. Petros Karagiannis.

As he pointed out in philenews, cases and hospitalizations are increasing among the unvaccinated. According to him, the percentage of hospitalized patients who have not received the vaccine, from 70% a few days ago, rose to 83%.

Commenting on the new measures, which came into force since yesterday, December 15th, Dr Karagiannis told us that the aim is to increase vaccination coverage and to comply with the measures. "The vaccine is a protective shield, but the results will be much better if we adhere to the measures," he added.

Both the unvaccinated and the vaccinated in their gatherings in homes should be particularly careful, because there is a possibility of an uncontrolled increase in cases, Dr. Karagiannis stressed.

Regarding the meeting that the members of the epidemiological team will have on Monday with the Minister of Health, Michalis Hadjipantelas, he said that everything is in flux as no agenda has yet been set. Concluding, he expressed his optimism for the large turnout of people in the vaccination centres.
