The imposition of strict measures and restrictions after the New Year should be taken for granted. Various scenarios are already being worked out in the Ministry of Health with the aim of preparing a plan with specific proposals, which will be put to the Council of Ministers early next week, in order to implement a new Decree that will restrict the movement of citizens and will leave the economy and trade in full operation.
The very large numbers of cases recorded in recent days leave no room for the Government, which in no way wishes to proceed for the fourth time to a universal lockdown, which is why the measures that are being processed, as we are informed, although they will touch both social and economic activities, will not lead the country to paralysis, as has been done on previous occasions.
The restrictions on the number of people per assembly should probably be taken for granted this time, as well as the tightening of the protocols on the basis of which all businesses operate without exception, while a characteristic of the measures, which are currently under consideration, is the fact that they do not divide citizens into vaccinated and unvaccinated. This of course is probably inevitable as the data of the mutated strain "Omikron" show that candidates to be infected with the virus are all, without exception of vaccination history, even if the chances of serious illness and death differ between people who have been vaccinated (mainly with all three doses) and people who remain unvaccinated.
Based on the characteristics of the mutation "Omikron" the preparation is also done in hospitals, since despite the fact that some estimates want this strain to be less dangerous than the "Delta", the significantly increased number of cases will inevitably lead to an increase in the number of hospitalized patients with coronavirus.
Until yesterday afternoon, however, no meeting had been scheduled between the Minister of Health and the Advisory Scientific Committee, but it is not excluded that due to the severe epidemiological situation, Michalis Hadjipantelas will choose to follow this time a different path, until the presentation of his final proposals to the Council of Ministers next Monday.
