The death of one person from COVID-19 and 883 new cases, the Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday.
According to its announcement, the competent Ministry says that the total number of deaths to date is 624, while the cases are 147,685. The positivity rate is 0.85%.
As noted by the 172 COVID-19 patients hospitalized, 64 are in serious condition, while 77.33% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
Also, 15 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
Meanwhile, a total of 103,603 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
Today's results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 1 person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:
- A man, aged 65, who died on December 22nd in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 624, of which:
- 398 men (63.8%), and
- 226 women (36.2%).
The average age of those hospitalised by the disease is 75.9 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 172 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 64 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 64 patients who are in serious condition, 26 are intubated, 2 are hospitalized in an Off-Ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 36 are hospitalized in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 103,603 diagnoses made, 10,295 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 93,308 by the antigen rapid test, 883 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 151 cases from 1,438 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
- 49 cases from 4,855 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 156 cases from 3,560 samples taken through private initiative.
- 11 cases from 402 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 352 cases from 56,223 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 163 cases from 37,085 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
- 1 case from 40 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
