715 NEW CASES, ONE DEATH - Monday

One more person has died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 611, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Health.

Another 149 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 52 are in serious condition. 77.19% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

6 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

715 (positivity rate: 0.67%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified from 106,521 tests for detecting the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The 1 person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:

-       A woman, aged 85, who ended up on December 12th at Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 611, of which:

  • 390 men (63.8%), and
  • 221 women (36.2%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 75.8 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 149 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 52 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 52 patients who are in serious condition, 15 are intubated, 4 are hospitalized in an Off-Ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 33 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 106,521 diagnoses made, 12,594 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 93,927 by the antigen rapid test, 715 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 51 cases from 1,345 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 30 cases from 5,946 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 98 cases from 4,721 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 25 cases from 376 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 372 cases from 61,312 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 138 cases from 32,615 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
  • 1 case from 203 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 0 cases from 3 samples taken as part of checks in closed facilities.
