Two deaths from coronavirus and 650 new cases were announced Wednesday by the Ministry of Health, with the positivity rate standing at 0.76%. 157 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in the state facilities, of which 54 are in serious condition.
77.08% of hospitalized people have no history of vaccination. Also 7 post-COVID patients, who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition in an Intensive Care Unit.
Today's results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 2 people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:
- A man, aged 95 years, who died on December 14 at the Famagusta General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 82 years, who died on December 15th at the Limassol General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 614, of which:
- 391 men (63.7%), and
- 223 women (36.3%).
The average age of those voted by the disease is 75.9 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 157 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 54 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 54 patients who are in serious condition, 20 are intubated, 2 are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 32 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 85,024 diagnoses performed, 7,996 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 77,028 by the antigen rapid test, 650 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 115 cases from 1,173 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
- 21 cases from 3,510 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 124 cases from 2,807 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 16 cases from 274 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 257 cases from 43,200 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 115 cases from 33,828 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
- 2 cases from 231 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- 0 cases from 1 sample taken as part of checks in closed facilities.
