619 NEW CASES - TUESDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 7, 2021, no deaths of patients with a final cause of death, COVID-19, were recorded, while 619 are the new positive cases.

Specifically:

  • No deaths of patients with a final cause of death were recorded, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 602.

  • 118 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 45 are in serious condition. 77.97% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 4 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.

  • A total of 80,112 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 619 (positivity rate: 0.77% new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 138,157.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 remains 602, of which:

  • 387 men (64.3%), and
  • 215 women (35.7%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 75.7 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 118 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 45 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 45 patients who are in serious condition, 18 are intubated, 5 are hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit outside the ventilator and 22 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 80,112 diagnoses performed, 8,496 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 71,616 by the antigen rapid test, 619 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 81 cases from 1,004 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 17 cases from 4,093 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 94 cases from 2,830 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 18 cases from 345 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 274 cases from 40,440 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 131 cases from 31,176 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
  • 4 cases from 223 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 0 cases from 1 sample taken as part of checks in closed facilities.
