One person has died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 608, according to today's announcement by the Ministry of Health. According to today's data from the Ministry of Health, 428 (positivity rate: 0.55% new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 140,458.
Also 145 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 42 are in serious condition. 79.32% of hospitalized patients do not have a history of vaccination.5 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
At the same time, a total of 78,007 tests for the detection of the disease have been performed using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
Today's results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The 1 person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:
- Woman, aged 88 years, who ended up on December 11 at the Famagusta General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with covid-19 as the final cause is 608, of which:
- 389 men (64%), and
- 219 women (36%).
The average age of those voted by the disease is 75.8 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 145 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 42 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 42 patients who are in serious condition, 20 are intubated, 2 are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 20 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 78,007 diagnoses performed, 9,499 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 68,508 by the antigen rapid test method, 428 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 18 cases from 4,492 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 98 cases from 4,777 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 8 cases from 226 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 204 cases from 50,420 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 100 cases from 18,088 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- 0 cases from 3 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
- 0 cases from 1 sample taken as part of checks in closed facilities.
