Dogfighting is a criminal offense and according to the law on animal welfare they are prohibited, the responsible Animal Police Officer, Byron Byron Byron, told the ATZENTA show on ACTIVE.
Two persons have been arrested and investigations are at an advanced stage, Mr Byron said, adding that the suspects' allegations are being investigated. "We hope that at the end of the interrogations we will be able to register the case in court."
There is no information about organized struggle and illegal betting explained the officer, but what is certain, is that there is mistreatment of animals.
Referring to the incident of hanging two dogs in Lythrodontas, Mr. Byron said that it is being investigated as the results of the necrotomy of the dogs are awaited. There is information and suspicions of the owner, which is examined in all seriousness.
Asked about this, Mr. Byron said that since May 2021, when the animal police were established, 40 cases of animal abuse have been investigated and are under trial.
