YELLOW WEATHER WARNING

A yellow warning, for isolated strong thunderstorms, was issued by the Meteorological Service, which is in effect from 11:00 a.m. till late this afternoon.

According to the Meteorological Service, isolated strong thunderstorms are expected to affect the western parts of the island, while they are likely to affect areas of the interior and mountains. The intensity of the rain is likely to exceed 35 millimetres per hour and hail is not excluded.

The yellow warning will be in effect until 5:00 in the afternoon.

In a ring of bad weather

Severe weather phenomena are observed in many areas of Cyprus, with Troodos dressed in white due to hail.

As Kitas Weather reported, Troodos was whitened again by a thin layer of hail.

"At the same time, the temperature from Kitasweather station dropped to 2 degrees Celsius during hail from 7.7 degrees Celsius that rose earlier in the morning. So far, 5.8 millimetres of rain have been recorded."

The weather forecast

In the afternoon the weather will be mostly cloudy and local rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected. In the areas of the storms, the rainfall is likely to be intense, while hail may also fall. Winds will blow northeast to southeast, weak to moderate 3 to 4 Beaufort but windward to strong, 5 Beaufort. The sea will be a little turbulent to turbulent.

In the evening the weather will be partly cloudy and isolated rains or even isolated thunderstorms are expected. Winds will blow mainly northeast, moderate 4 and locally to strong 5 Beaufort but transient to windward, up to very strong 6 Beaufort. The sea will be a little turbulent to turbulent but in the east and north it will be turbulent. The temperature will drop to 12 degrees in the interior, around 14 degrees on the coast and 6 degrees in the higher mountains.

Tomorrow the weather will be mostly cloudy and local rain and isolated thunderstorms are expected from time to time. Winds will blow mainly northeast, moderate 4 Beaufort and transient to windward, up to strong 5 Beaufort. The sea will be a little turbulent to turbulent. The temperature will rise to around 21 degrees in the interior and the coast and to 11 degrees in the higher mountains.

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the weather will be partly cloudy and at times isolated rains are expected, while for Monday the possibility of a thunderstorm is not excluded.

The temperature will rise on Monday and will hover at the same levels on Tuesday and Wednesday, which are just above the seasonal average.
