Filenews 22 November 2021 - by Andria Demetriou
Beneficial were the rains that hit Cyprus over the weekend, since there were intense storms in several areas, but the weather will not do us any favours since it seems that the rainfall, at least for the next five days, will be local.
Speaking to philenews, the Director of the Cyprus Meteorological Service Kleanthis Nikolaidis said that, the next few days will be characterized by local clouds that may give local rains or even a thunderstorm with a epicentre on Wednesday and Thursday.
Asked about whether the rains will be so intense as it was during the weekend, Mr. Nikolaidis replied negatively, stressing that the rainfall during the two-day period was in many areas and had the characteristic of drizzle for some time, during which there were heavy rains in several areas. That is why a yellow warning was issued on Saturday. However, as Mr. Nikolaidis pointed out, in the coming days the temperatures will be close to normal for the season, i.e. 22 to 23 degrees Celsius, with local rains.
On whether there will be more severe weather events later, he said it is too early to make a prediction, noting that the forecast is for the next five days.
Detailed weather forecast
Weak low pressure affects the area. Today initially the weather in most areas will be mostly clear, although locally increased cloudiness may give isolated rain mainly on the south and east coasts. Gradually increased cloudiness that will be observed is expected to give isolated rains mainly in the northwest and the mountains that are likely to occur and isolated short storm. Winds will blow mainly northeast to southeast, weak to moderate, 3 to 4 Beaufort. The sea will be up a little turbulent. The temperature will rise to around 23 degrees in the interior and the coast and around 12 degrees in the higher mountains.
Tonight there will be temporarily increased cloudiness that is later expected to give isolated rains, on the south and west coasts. Winds will blow mainly northeast to southeasterly, weak 3 Beaufort. The sea will be a little turbulent. The temperature will drop to 11 degrees in the interior, around 15 degrees on the coast and 6 degrees in the higher mountains.
On Tuesday and Wednesday isolated rains are expected and on Thursday local rains and isolated thunderstorms. The temperature is not expected to change significantly until Wednesday, while on Thursday a slight drop is expected to be close to the average climatic values.
