For a few years now, before the pandemic, the residents of Pafos and the thousands of foreign visitors have been enjoying a completely new and upgraded image and function of the central fabric of the city. In the near future, improvements of similar importance, again on a relatively large scale, will be launched in areas of Paphos beyond its historical and commercial centre.
The new reconstructions will concern the area of Panagia Theoskepasti [in the centre of Kato Paphos by where the aquarium used to be] and the coastal roads that surround it, the Anavargou district and the area south of the shopping centre. The overall design was assigned by the Municipality of Pafos after a tender procedure to the contractor company "Ilida Consulting Engineers S.A." and the special architectural study is being prepared by the collaborating architectural office "Hologram Design Ltd.".
Based on the provisions of the study, the project will highlight to the best extent each redevelopment area, will provide incentives for the overall restoration of any abandoned or altered buildings and will greatly increase the number of visitors touring the settlement, with the corresponding economic and social benefits for residents and local businesses.
Speaking to "F" about the new attempted large-scale renewal promoted by the Municipality of Pafos, EDEK's municipal councilor, Panagiotis Vorkas, points out that the plans are at an advanced stage, while their first presentations to the public and the city's stakeholders have already been made. "Today the studies are in front of the researchers again to complete them and so that the Municipality can come out relatively immediately to tenders", he stresses. "We hope that in 2022 we will be talking about the start of the implementation of this new package of major projects in the municipal area of Pafos", concluded Mr. Vorkas.
