A wide-ranging meeting should be organized immediately on the initiative of the Municipality of Pafos with all the competent bodies, such as the Police and the Pafos Traffic Police, the various state departments and services, in order to organize and proceed to the identification, registration and mapping of all problematic roads and high-risk points on the Pafos road network. where most road accidents occur. This is emphasized by the municipal symbol of EDEK in the Municipality of Pafos, Filippos Filippou, in a letter sent to the Mayor of Pafos.
The aim, he says, is to stop the very worrying scene this year that is taking shape in the city regarding fatal accidents and, at the same time, to identify the real causes, so that radical solutions can be obtained with tangible results.
"We need targeted and stronger policing, preventive checks, integrated signalling, cultivation of a driver culture, respect for all those who use the network," he says. "In this way we will be able to act in a coordinated manner and demand together the improvement of our road network and fill as many gaps as possible."
Mr. Filippou refers in his speech to serious problems in the road network of Pafos, such as bad or non-existent lighting and traffic lights, problematic pedestrian crossings, almost invisible lines on the roadway and insufficient indications, warning signs, sidewalks, ramps for people with disabilities and above-ground pedestrian crossings.
"If we involve our fellow citizens in this process, we will discover and listen to things that you do not even find in third world cities", he stresses. «We have neither the best road network, nor the most convenient sidewalks, nor good lighting and certainly the streets of Pafos are not safe at all. But we can see the problem in its true dimensions and slowly correct as much as possible that we can correct and improve as much as we can the use of our road network by everyone."
