Europol (the European Union Agency for Law Enforcement Cooperation) has been informed of online fraud, in which online corruptors in European countries use the names of Europol's Executive Director Catherine De Bolle and The Deputy Executive Director of Europol, Jean-Philippe Lecouffe, as well as other European law enforcement officials, for the purpose of extracting money.
Misleading emails or messages sent on social media are written in several languages and use the Europol logo, the name of Catherine De Bolle and/or Jean-Philippe Lecouffe to be believed.
According to their content, the fraudsters are deceiving the recipients that Europol is investigating them into alleged cases of child pornography and are asking them for sums of money in order to stop the investigation.
Do not be misled - this correspondence is false. Neither the Executive Director of Europol nor the Deputy Executive Director would communicate directly with members of the public threatening them to open a criminal investigation against them.
In the event that any person receives a suspicious email or correspondence with this content, he/she shall be requested to report it to the Electronic Crime Subdivision of the Police Headquarters, on the phone 22808200.
