 Filenews 20 November 2021

Horror and revulsion is caused by the new complaint of the Movement of Ecologists for the killing of cats by poison in the Oroklini area of the Larnaca district.

According to a relevant announcement of the party, only shock from the barbarism that some of our fellow human beings cause animals,  as can be seen by the images of the new incident of killing cats in the Larnaca district that took place on 18/11/2021.

The announcement reads as follows:

Only shock from the barbarism that some of our fellow human beings can cause animals, can be seen by the images of the new incident of killing cats in the District of Larnaka that took place on 18/11/2021.

As we were informed, by directly involved individuals, 8 cats were found dead. The case was reported to the police and an investigation has already begun.

As a Movement of Ecologists – Citizens' Cooperation, we call on the authorities to act immediately and decisively, to find the guilty parties and to bring the case to justice for exemplary punishment of those responsible for this act.

We repeat for the umpteenth time that our way of behaving towards animals is a sample of our culture. We wonder some will ever understand that animals have feelings and rights and we must respect them if we want to call ourselves a civilised people.

We remind citizens that there is a procedure to be followed with regard to animal poisoning.

The deliberate poisoning of animals is an illegal act and is strictly punishable by law. According to article 4 of the Protection and Welfare of Animals Law "any person is prohibited intentionally and without reasonable cause from administering or supplying or permitting the administration or supply of any poison or other harmful substance to any animal or to cause such a substance to be taken from any animal". Every citizen, who finds his animal or an unknown animal poisoned, not only can report the case to the Police Station of his area, but has the obligation to do so, in order to avoid such incidents in the future. He can do so even if he still doesn't know who committed the crime (against strangers). If he suspects a particular person then he should declare it. The Police are obliged to investigate any complaint about animal poisoning.

The Movement of Ecologists - Citizens' Cooperation is at the disposal of every citizen to inform and support the efforts to report incidents of violence and killing.
