The 53-year-old friend of the Russian couple, who is considered by the Police to be the number one suspect in robbing their home with €70,000 of booty last Friday, was identified and arrested. The Russian woman has been detained and investigations by the authorities are continuing to fully clarify the case, which also involved three men, also Russians.
The robbery took place when three men of Russian origin entered the 64-year-old's home and after brutally beating him they robbed him, apparently knowing that he had disbursed the €70,000 from the bank because he would depart permanently for Russia that same afternoon after the death of his wife.
According to the Assistant Police Director of Pafos, Michalis Ioannou, an arrest warrant had been issued against the 53-year-old in question, since the examinations carried out in the previous days found that the woman, who had friendly and family relations with the 64-year-old complainant, was the only person who knew about the existence of the amount of money. Mr. Ioannou called the 53-year-old person a "key" to solving the case.
The robbery was committed on Friday afternoon at the 64-year-old's residence in the Unitedsal area. Three people who, according to the 64-year-old owner of the residence, wore hats, black clothes and protective masks for COVID-19, also black in colour, entered his house and after beating him, extracted from his residence the amount of €70,000 in cash.
Soon after, the assailants left the residence running. As the complainant said, during the attack the alleged perpetrators spoke to the complainant in Russian asking him for money. The complainant had wounds in various parts of his body.
