The Ministry of Health announces that today, November 18, 2021, one person has died from COVID-19, while 388 are the new positive cases of the disease.
Specifically:
- One person has died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 589.
- 86 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 34 are in serious condition. 60.47% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 3 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in an Intensive Care Unit.
- A total of 61,330 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 388 (positivity rate: 0.63%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 129,158.
Today's results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The one person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:
- A man, aged 66, who ended up on November 17 in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 589, of which:
- 377 men (64%), and
- 212 women (36%).
The average age of those voted by the disease is 76 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 86 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 34 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 34 patients who are in serious condition, 15 are intubated, one is hospitalized in an Off-Ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 18 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 61,330 diagnoses performed, 4,099 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 57,231 by the antigen rapid test, 388 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 55 cases from 837 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
- 2 cases from 1,370 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 55 cases from 1,559 samples taken through private initiative.
- 2 cases from 220 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 189 cases from 33,420 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 85 cases from 23,811 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- 113 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
