A total of 479 complaints about various traffic offences resulted from traffic control, by members of the Special Police Unit of Motorcyclists (E.O.M.O), the Road Accident Prevention Police Unit (O.P.O.D) of the Headquarters and members of the Pafos Traffic Police, on the motorways and the secondary road network of the city and district of Pafos.
According to a police announcement, traffic controls were carried out between the hours of 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. today Wednesday 27/10/2021, in the context of road traffic collision prevention, deterrence and suppression of nuisance offences by cars and motorcycles and juvenile delinquency.
The majority of complaints concerned offences which are proven to be the main causes of serious and fatal road collisions. Of these, the following stand out:
· 159 complaints concerning speed limit infringement
· 57 complaints about driving unlicensed motor vehicles
· 50 complaints about not using a seat belt
· 63 complaints concerning tachographs
· 40 complaints about using a mobile phone while driving
· 19 complaints about driving motor vehicles without a MOT control certificate
· 91 complaints about various other traffic offences
Targeted traffic checks continue daily, throughout the day, around the clock, throughout the road network all over Cyprus. The sole objective is to consolidate the correct road awareness of all road users and to prevent fatal and serious road traffic collisions.
