Filenews 7 October 2021
The Open Paramotor Games began today and will last until Tuesday, October 12, filling the skies of the tourist resort with colorful canopies that are expected to impress the public.
The choice of Ayia Napa to hold these important matches was made possible after a meeting that the deputy mayor of Ayia Napa Antonis Christou had with the champion of Paramotor Bruno Vezzoli. Then the experts of the Games came to Ayia Napa and approved the area for the conduct of this event.
In his statements to Filenews, Ayia Napa Deputy Mayor Antonis Christou noted that 30 pilots from all over the world take part in the races.
At the same time, he invited the public to visit Ayia Napa these days, in order to enjoy the impressive spectacle. For this purpose, special pontoons have been placed in the sea area of the resort's harbour, in order to accommodate spectators of the games. According to Mr. Christou, the pilots of the races will approach the audience in the balloons making spectacular manoeuvres in the air.
The games are held daily at the hours 06.00 - 10.00 and 17.00 - 19.00.
As the Deputy Mayor of Ayia Napa mentioned, the ultimate goal of the organizers is that the 2022 games will be held again in Ayia Napa and in the same period, with the participations of pilots exceeding 100. He stressed that this would help extend the tourist season.
The conduct of such a sporting event is very important for Ayia Napa, since apart from the fact that it will stimulate the tourist season, it will also promote our city abroad, Mr. Christou added.
We will continue, he said, to support such initiatives aimed at lengthening the tourist season, upgrading our tourism product and establishing Ayia Napa as a venue for major sporting events.
