A dog shelter in Nicosia district will end its operation, with the Cyprus Animal Party warning that 150 dogs will be on the street.
The announcement of the party, titled 150+ DOGS WILL BE FOUND IN THE STREETS:
The Party for the Animals of Cyprus wishes to send a strict message to the Government, and in particular to the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Interior.
For some time now, efforts have been made on behalf of our Party to find land (Greek or Turkish Cypriot) for the purpose of operating a dog shelter.
In particular, shelter in Nicosia district is in the unfortunate position of ending its operation and moving immediately to another area. We thank and are grateful to the Minister of Agriculture, who has long sent a letter to his colleague, the Minister of the Interior. However, until this moment the situation remains as it is, with the risk that many dogs will find themselves abandoned again without care, shelter and love.
Gentlemen, we say it and say it again. Volunteers and rescuers are NOT paid, they are NOT civil servants. They offer selfless work, they give from their shortfall, and generally from their everyday life. They manage the shelters, and this is the job and obligation of the state when it comes to increasing the growth of abandoned dogs.
