The Cyprus Institute is organizing today and tomorrow in Paphos, the 2nd International Conference on "Climate Change in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East". The Conference takes place within the framework of the Initiative of the Government of Cyprus for the confrontation of Climate Change in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
The scientific activities of the Initiative, in which more than 200 scientists from 25 countries participate, are coordinated by the Cyprus Institute, which is the core of this effort. The Conference is co-organized by the Government of Cyprus and the Cyprus Institute, in collaboration with the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus and the Centre of Excellence for Climate and Atmospheric Research of the Cyprus Institute.
The two-day conference will be held at Aphrodite Hills. At today's opening of the proceedings, speakers include the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, Dr. Laurent Fabius, President of the French Constitutional Council and former Prime Minister of France, Prince El Hassan bin Tala of Jordan, Professor Jeffrey Sachs, President of the UN Network of Sustainable Development Solutions and Virginijus Sinkevičius, European Union Commissioner for the Environment Oceans and Fisheries.
