According to information received by the Ministry of Health on new results of sequencing strains of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in samples of positive individuals, which had been sent for processing to a specialized laboratory abroad through the ECDC program, but also through a laboratory with which the Ministry of Health has concluded an agreement in Cyprus, it appears that the Delta mutation prevails in the Republic of Cyprus at a rate of 100% from June 28 to September 18, while for the time being, none of the new strains of interest or concern have been detected in Cyprus.
Specifically:
- The analysis concerns samples taken in public health clinics and private clinical laboratories in all provinces.
- The analysis shall concern samples with sampling dates of the period 16 August to 18 September 2021.
- Detection of the variant was successful in 211 samples from a total of 282 samples sent for examination.
- All 211 samples with successful sequencing/detection of the variant were identified as strain B.1.617.2 (Delta/Indian strain variant).
- As recorded in the table below, the Delta mutation prevails in the Republic of Cyprus at a rate of 100% from June 28 to September 18.
- At present, none of the new strains of interest or concern (variant of interest / variant of concern), such as the Mu mutation, have been detected in Cyprus.
