As of October 26, 2021, 655 deaths of people diagnosed with COVID-19 have been reported to the Health Monitoring Unit of the Ministry of Health. 64% are men (n=419 deaths) and the remaining 36% are women (n=236 deaths). Limassol has the highest mortality rate per 100,000 population (83.6 deaths per 100,000 population). It is followed by Larnaca with 69.6 deaths, Famagusta with 61.3 deaths, Nicosia with 51.8 deaths and finally Paphos with 42.6 deaths per 100,000 population.
• Of the 655 deaths, 570 (87%) had an underlying cause of COVID-19.
• 64% of the total number of deaths with the underlying cause of COVID-19, concerns men (n = 363 deaths) and the remaining 36% concerns women (n = 207 deaths).
• 50% of the total number of deaths of people diagnosed with COVID-19 are people aged 69-85 years, with a median age of death of 78 years and an average age of 76.1.
• The total number of deaths of people diagnosed with COVID-19, in the month of August 2021 (n=93), exceeded the number of deaths of December 2020 (n=86) and January 2021 (n=86). Since the beginning of the pandemic, the rate for the three months with the highest numbers has reached 40% of the total number of deaths. It is followed by April 2021 with 10% (n=66), May 2021 with 9% (n=58) and July with 7% (n=46).
• The highest percentage of deaths of people positive with COVID-19, with the underlying cause of death the COVID-19 disease, concerns people with permanent residence in the Limassol District (n = 208, 36%). They are followed by Nicosia District (n=179, 31%), Larnaca District (n=105, 18%), Pafos District (n=40, 7%), Famagusta District (n=30,5%), 6 deaths have an undefined Permanent Residence District (1%) and 2 deaths concern residents abroad.
