CHANGES FOR TRAVEL TO BRITAIN BY EU CITIZENS

 Filenews 1 October 2021

As of today, 1 October, EU citizens' identity cards when travelling to Great Britain are no longer accepted. Those who have acquired the right of permanent residence or pre-installed resident and have declared it to the immigration service of the Ministry of Interior are excluded.

This is a measure envisaged by the Brexit deal and, as Home Secretary Priti Patel said, the aim is to better control borders and prevent criminals from entering the country with false documents.

Simplifying entry into England

Moreover, as of Monday 4 October, the entry into England for those travelling from abroad is simplified. First of all, the tri-zonal system of red orange, green imposed due to the pandemic, is abolished and ranks each country according to its epidemiological picture.

There will only be 'red' countries, for which very strict criteria and a high-cost procedure will apply to travel to England, even if you are a British citizen. At the moment, 54 states have joined this list, most of them far from Europe except Montenegro and Tunisia.

The price of tests drops

For all other states, fully vaccinated travellers will no longer need to take the test before their departure. It is still necessary to fill in the PLF (Passenger Locator Form) document, the vaccination certificate and another test that they will do on the second day of their arrival. But the test from mid-October is also expected to become much cheaper and even bought from supermarkets, according to government sources. It is characteristic that its cost can fall even to 5 pounds sterling.

It is worth noting that the new conditions for travel to England apply only to the fully vaccinated. The rest will still be required to do two costly coronavirus tests.
