BRITAIN - AFTER PETROL STATIONS, FEARS FOR PHARMACIES

 Filenews 4 October 2021

Pharmacies in Britain said today they are seeing delays in the distribution of medicines in some areas and have called on the government to ensure that there is a robust contingency plan to prevent bigger problems in the supply of medicines.

"Pharmacists and their teams are working very hard to ensure that patients have access to their medicines during the current crisis," Leila Hanbeck, chief executive of the Association of Independent Multiple Pharmacies (AIMp), told Reuters.

The crisis has a significant impact on the workload

"While the situation with the fuel crisis has begun to improve, we are aware that some geographic areas are still affected by delays in drug distribution," Hanbeck said.

Hanbeck said the crisis is significantly impacting the workload and pressure on pharmacists.

"We are monitoring the situation with the distribution truck drivers and the fuel crisis closely and we are working with the government and we are asking the government to ensure that there are robust contingency plans and strategy to ensure that the supply of medicines is not affected and that we can continue to take care of our patients," Hanbek said.

AIMp represents pharmacy businesses in the community with many branches. Its members represent a significant number of pharmacies across the UK.
