89 NEW CASES, SUNDAY

Eighty-nine new cases of COVID-19 were announced on Sunday by the Ministry of Health, while no deaths of patients with a final cause of death were recorded, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 568.

Sixty-three COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 21 are in serious condition. 55.56% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

Three post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases) continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

A total of 38,139 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

Eighty-nine (positivity rate: 0.23%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 123,357.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 remains 568, of which:

  • 361 men (64%), and
  • 207 women (36%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.2 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 63 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 21 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 21 patients who are in serious condition, eight are intubated, two are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 11 in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail, the situation in the hospitals is the following:

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 38,139 diagnoses made, 4,710 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 33,429 by the antigen rapid test method, 89 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 6 cases from 257 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 6 cases from 3,248 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
  • 20 cases from 849 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 4 cases from 86 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 27 cases from 14,758 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 26 cases from 18,671 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 259 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 11 samples taken as part of a sample check at the Port.
