The Ministry of Health announces that today, October 8, 2021, no deaths of patients with a final cause of death, COVID-19, were recorded, while 144 are the new cases of the disease.
Specifically:
- No deaths of patients with a final cause of death were recorded, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 557.
- 64 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 20 are in serious condition. 59.38% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 11 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.
- A total of 55,413 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 144 (positivity rate: 0.26%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 121,136.
Today's results are detailed.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 remains 557, of which:
- 354 men (64%), and
- 203 women (36%).
The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.3 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 64 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 20 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 20 patients who are in serious condition, 11 are intubated in an Intensive Care Unit and nine in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 55,413 diagnoses performed, 5,207 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 50,206 by the antigen rapid test, 144 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 19 cases from 323 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
- 10 cases from 2,722 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 30 cases from 1,827 samples taken through private initiative.
- 2 cases from 195 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 57 cases from 29,971 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 26 cases from 20,235 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- 140 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
