126 NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS - SATURDAY

Two people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 561 according to today's announcement by the Ministry of Health. At the same time, the ministry says that 126 (positivity rate: 0.28%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 122,263.

51 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 20 are in serious condition. 66.67% of hospitalized patients do not have a history of vaccination.9 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.  A total of 44,460 tests have been performed with the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The one person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, relate to:

  • A man, aged 80 years, who ended up on October 15th at Paphos General Hospital.
  • A man, aged 76, who ended up on October 15th at Paphos General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 561, of which:

  • 356 men (63%), and
  • 205 women (37%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.3 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 51 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 20 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 20 patients who are in serious condition, 10 are intubated in an Intensive Care Unit and 10 in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail, the situation in the hospitals is the following:

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 44,460 diagnoses performed, 3,976 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 40,484 by the antigen rapid test method, 126 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 11 cases from 2,352 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 31 cases from 1,454 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 2 cases from 142 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 59 cases from 31,117 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 23 cases from 9,367 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 23 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 5 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
