117 NEW CASES, ONE DEATH - Monday

One person has died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 555, according to today's announcement by the Ministry of Health.

At the same time, 117 (positivity rate: 0.18%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 120,615.

As the communication states:

  • 65 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 24 are in serious condition. 56.53% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

  • 11 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

  • A total of 63,823 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The one person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:

  • A man, aged 75 years, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 555, of which:

  • 352 men (63%), and
  • 203 women (37%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.4 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 65 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 24 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 24 patients who are in serious condition, 13 are intubated, one is hospitalized in an Off-Ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 10 in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail, the situation in the hospitals is the following:

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 63,823 diagnoses performed, 5,799 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 58,024 by the antigen rapid test method, 117 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 3 cases from 94 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 9 cases from 3,857 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 27 cases from 1,498 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 1 case from 95 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 5 cases from 255 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 60 cases from 36,700 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 12 cases from 21,324 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
