After a stormy session that lasted a total of six hours, the new Board of Directors of the Cyprus Ports Authority corrected the mistake of the outgoing Council, ending the process of allocating spaces in the Vassilikos area to two companies for energy production, one biofuel and one power plant.

Despite the fact that all the data and data contributed to the annulment, nevertheless there was discussion, all opinions were heard and finally the decision to annul the previous decisions taken last June was taken unanimously.

In particular, the Council found that on 15/6/2021, the issuance of permits in principle to two companies was approved and no permits have been issued for the concession of premises.

The procedure for granting licenses to the two companies was not completed and the Council, studying the file of the two applications as well as the procedure followed so far for their examination, found that this was not correct, i.e. through the procedure followed, the financial and other interests of the Cyprus Ports Authority are not safeguarded.

In view of the above, the Council decided to terminate the concession procedure to the two companies in question.

It is noted that on 15/6/2021 a decision was taken to grant a license to Bioland Protimtia Ltd for a power station and BD Sunoil Cyprus Ltd for the production of biodiesel.

Furthermore, the Council decided to consider the cancellation of a further two licences relating to two other developments.

Specifically, on 19/1/2021, the Ports Authority decided to grant a license to topomaster Ltd (now Lysarea) for a power station for an area of 20,000 sq. m. and to the asphalt storage facility company E.M. Island Bitumen Ltd for an area of 10,000 sq. m. in the community of Mari. The examination of the legal and other aspects of the procedure followed in relation to these two licenses continues and a decision will be taken at the next meeting of the Board of Directors, 5/10/2021.

After the decision of the Board of Directors, the interest that exists for the concession of available spaces of the Port Authority in the Area of Vassilikos will be examined and then a decision will be taken for their assignment through lawful procedures.
