Traces of an oil spill were found 30 nautical miles northeast of Cape Greco, according to information given to the Ministry of Agriculture by a fishing vessel.
The Minister of Agriculture Costas Kadis briefed the Minister of Justice and it was decided that a Police helicopter would supervise the area to determine whether the information is valid.
The vessels of the Department of Fisheries were put on alert, while the special anti-pollution vessel "Alexandria" is heading to the area.
