THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A GENERAL DIRECTORATE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT WAS DECIDED BY BY THE MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT

The establishment of a new General Directorate of Environment, in the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, with sectors of activity climate change, circular economy and waste management, nature and biodiversity, assessment of the impact on the environment of various projects and environmental permitting, pollution control and protection of air, water and soil, the Council of Ministers decided on Thursday to audit and monitor the environmental audit and monitoring.

The decision of the Minister of Ministers was announced by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Costas Kadis.

Referring to a particularly important decision of the Minister for the environmental events in the area, Mr. Kadis said that the body decided to restructure and upgrade the institutional framework for the management of environmental issues in Cyprus.

He clarified that he has decided to create a second Directorate-General in the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, the Directorate-General for the Environment, which will have in its responsibilities issues that are at the heart of European policies and the green deal.

"We consider this decision to be particularly important, which lays solid foundations for a new upgraded and rational framework for the management of environmental issues in our country, on the basis of the new challenges we face both as Cyprus and regionally and as a planet," he said.

He added that in this way Cyprus will certainly be able to respond better both to its obligations towards the EU and towards the international conventions it has signed.
