OVER 1300 TRAFFIC OFFENCES FOUND OVER A 3 DAY PERIOD

More than 1,300 traffic offences were detected and reported during traffic checks carried out by members of the Police throughout Cyprus, during the current three day period, with the aim of reducing serious and fatal road collisions.  As part of the traffic checks, five cars and 14 motorcycles were also detained for examination purposes.

More specifically, from Friday until Sunday morning, a total of 658 drivers were reported for exceeding the speed limit, 68 persons for not using a seat belt, 25 for not wearing a protective helmet, and another 46 drivers for using a mobile phone while driving, while 22 drivers were reported for violating a traffic light.

A total of 25 drivers were reported for driving under the influence of alcohol, while four drivers were reported for driving under the influence of drugs.

In addition, 26 drivers were reported for driving without a licence, 29 drivers for driving without a safety certificate, 70 for driving a vehicle without a registration certificate, and 11 for driving a vehicle that had been declared immobilized to the TMM. 22 drivers were also reported for driving a vehicle without a certificate of fitness, and 55 drivers were reported regarding the operation of the headlights and brakes of their vehicles.

Finally, 144 drivers were reported for illegal parking and another 12 for obstruction of traffic, with the rest of the complaints relating to various other traffic offences. A total of 1,380 complaints were made about traffic offences in total.
