NON-EMERGENCY SURGERY CAN RESUME

 Filenews 7 September 2021

The resumption of planned non-emergency surgeries and patient admissions was approved today by the Council of Ministers, following a proposal presented by the Minister of Health, Michalis Hadjipantela. The decision of the Council of Ministers falls under the continuous re-evaluation of the measures in force, so that they are in line with the epidemiological data prevailing at each time in the community.

Specifically, the Council of Ministers decided that the improved epidemiological picture of the last few days in Cyprus, as well as the reduction and stabilization of the number of hospitalized patients with COVID-19, allow the resumption, as of September 8, of the conduct of non-emergency surgeries and patient admissions.

Moreover, given that, according to the plan of the CySEC, 165 beds in the hospitals of the Organization will remain available for the care of COVID patients, the Council of Ministers approved an increase of the maximum limit of bed occupancy in private hospitals from 70% to 80%,excluding beds of Intensive Care Units, for which the occupancy limit is increased from 60% to 70%.

The purpose of the decisions is the return of hospitals to normality as much as possible and the service of patients, so as to ensure their health, but also the sustainability of the Health System. At the same time, hospitals remain vigilant in managing a possible new wave of COVID patient admissions.
