A peculiar "war" is underway in the Paphos countryside this summer. One after the other, hay production is destroyed by malicious actions of some, with the Police estimating that behind the successive fires in hay balls recorded from June until today are hidden economic and interpersonal interests of farmers.
Another malicious destruction of this product occurred at midnight in Prodromos, in the Chrysochous area. Eighty bales of hay that were in a field pending their collection were burned by a fire that was found to have been maliciously set, caused the 46-year-old owner financial damage of €1600.
The arson in this batch of hay follows similar arson that occurred during the summer in various areas of the Pafos district, from Chrysochou and Laona, to the eastern mountainous Paphos, while in one case unknown people stole 100 bales of hay from an area placed in the village of Nata.
The Police are continuing their investigations to clarify last night's malicious action and to clarify the many previous actions in areas where the hay balls were placed.
