GREEN LIGHT FOR 3rd DOSE OF VACCINE - WHO IT CONCERNS

 Filenews 2 September 2021

New decisions were taken by the Ministry to deal with the pandemic.

As stated by the Minister of Health, "the Council of Ministers studied all the data, processed the recommendations of the experts and decided, among others, the following:

• Initiation of administration of the 3rd dose of vaccine to people over 65 years of age, to residents of nursing homes, to immunosuppressed people regardless of age, as well as to health professionals, provided that a period of 6 months has elapsed since the completion of their vaccination regimen. All information about the procedure and the date of commencement of vaccinations will be announced in the coming days.

• Reopening of academic institutions with physical presence at 2/3 of the capacity of the classrooms, with the necessary demonstration of SafePass by students, academics and other staff.

• Extension of the remaining existing measures until 22 September. I would like to note that all the measures implemented are under continuous evaluation and are based on the epidemiological data of the period.

The Minister of Health said earlier that "after two months in the 'red', the numbers show that we are on the right track to stop the gallop of the deadly virus and its mutations. The situation in our public hospitals is very good and hospitalizations are constantly decreasing. The majority of our fellow citizens were involved in the effort to overcome obstacles that seemed impossible a few weeks ago. Important steps were taken to stop the Delta mutation and at the same time to curb the hesitancy of some of our fellow human beings in vaccination.

He went on to state that "we have faithfully followed the guidelines of those responsible and the results of the scientific community's researches around the globe. Thanks to everyone's effort, our Health System has been kept upright.

We did not refuse any of our fellow citizens medical help and offered medical care to the highest degree. This is evidenced by mortality levels that are very low. Cyprus is in the 2nd lowest position among the Member States of the European Union (after Finland). And that is what we must continue to do. And we will! The safeguarding of the Health System and the unhindered provision of quality care to all our fellow citizens are not under negotiation!

Scientists record that excessive relaxation of personal protection and public health measures sharply increase the numbers. Any signs of complacency will be devastating! It is therefore imperative that we complete the wall of immunity. In this context are the new decisions of the Council of Ministers".
