The Minister of Finance, Konstantinos Petrides, expressed the government's strong desire for an immediate reduction in the price charged for electricity consumption, in a letter sent yesterday to the Chairman of the EAC Board of Directors. According to secure information from philenews, the YPIK is asking for a 10% reduction in the electricity charge price for a period of four months.

The letter states that the recent increases in electricity charges are weighing heavily on both households and businesses, especially in this time of crisis that we are going through as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Furthermore, Mr. Petrides calls on the EAC to take all appropriate actions and structural reforms to reduce production costs that will lead to the reduction of electricity charges.
