EU PROMOTES EUROPEAN STUDENT CARD

 Filenews 24 September 2021

MEP Lefteris Christoforou welcomes the decision of the European Commission and the competent Commissioner to take the first step towards the creation of a European Student Card.

As is well known, the MEP Lefteris Christoforou submitted a proposal and repeatedly demanded, from the EU, the establishment of a European Student Card.

In a communication, the European Commission states:

"Today, the Commission launched the new Erasmus+ application, marking a new milestone in the digitisation of the Erasmus+ programme. The new application, available in all EU languages, will provide a digital European Student Card, which will be valid throughout the European Union."

Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel, also said:

"The European Student Card, available through the app, is an important step towards a true European Education Area. A Single European Educational Area, where every student feels that he/she belongs and can gain access to the same services and the same recognition of their educational and university qualifications.

MEP Lefteris Christoforou stressed:  "First of all, I consider the announcement of the European Commission for the establishment of the European Student Card to be an important step. However, I believe that my Proposal must be implemented in full.

That is, all European students should have a Single European Student Card, which will provide them with important and useful benefits, such as free access to the Internet, libraries and other related places, the opportunity to enjoy significant discounts for their stay, in restaurants, travel tickets, tuition fees and many other actions that will be able to enrich the Student Card in the course of time.

I will consistently continue this effort for a Comprehensive, Strong and Useful European Student Card.

Finally, the European Commission addresses students by pointing out:

"Get the European Student Card to access services, museums, cultural activities and special offers at their university and host country."
