Filenews 20 September 2021 - by Dora Christodoulou

One of the most internationally known beaches in Cyprus and the most popular in the Pafos district, the Coral Bay in Pegeia, has maintained this summer the crown in popularity and preferences of bathers. Being ready in terms of infrastructure and services from a very early stage thanks to the timely interventions of the municipal authority, the beach of Pegeia welcomes thousands of bathers and other visitors with numbers reminiscent of pre-pandemic times.

As stated in the "F" the Mayor of Pegeia, Marinos Lambrou, the crews of the municipal authority made sure to complete from very early all the cleaning works of the huge sandy beach and the surrounding area, while they also carried out all those improvement works that allowed Coral Bay to operate smoothly from the beginning of the tourist season, thus achieving to make it, for yet another year, the most popular beach of bathers in the province.

At the same time, the beach, according to Mr. Lambrou, continues to provide visitors and bathers with all the necessary services that a beach of such fame and visitation should have.

In the same area, in the meantime, an enriching project is soon beginning that will contribute to the further development of both the Coral Bay and the wider area of the Municipality of Pegeia: The largest coastal pedestrian street in Cyprus will soon be a fact, since the procedures for its creation are progressing, with the announcement of the tender for the project, according to the Mayor of Pegeia.

Marinos Lambrou said in particular that the coastal pedestrian street of Pegeia will be a town planning project costing €2.5 million. The first phase of the project, he said, will be two kilometres long and will be part of the wider coastal pedestrian street that starts from the marina area in Potima and will end at the port of Agios Georgios in Pegeia, covering a total distance of 14 kilometres.

"In the first phase," he noted, "the construction of an amphitheatre, an outdoor gymnasium, a basketball court, a kiosk and a playground are planned. This is a very important project that will upgrade the Municipality of Pegeia. The completion of the project is estimated at 18 months.
