The conversion of the two convicted for the homicide of the 20-year-old Syrian in Chloraka into prosecution witnesses for the other eight defendants in the case, decided the prosecution.
At the last hearing before the Pafos Assize Court, the representative of the Public Prosecutor's Office requested the addition to the list of prosecution witnesses of the two new witnesses, who are the two compatriots of the victim who have already been convicted and are serving prison sentences after having been found guilty on their own admission to the charges they were facing.
The defence lawyers of the other eight accused of complicity in the murder, asked for time to be placed on the request of the prosecution and then the Assize Court set the case for September 29.
Until then, the accused will be free on restrictive terms.
The two Syrians now planned to be used as prosecution witnesses are a 23-year-old and a 26-year-old, who after the murder in April 2020 had fled to the occupied territories and eight months later were arrested by the occupation authorities and handed over to the Republic. They were tried as the main accused of the 20-year-old's murder and the 23-year-old was sentenced to 17 years in prison for the offence of manslaughter and the 26-year-old to 3 years in prison on charges of kidnapping.
