94 NEW CASES - SUNDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, September 19, 2021, no deaths of patients with a final cause of death of COVID-19 were recorded, while 94 are the new cases.

Specifically:

  • No deaths of patients with a final cause of death were recorded, and therefore the total number of deaths remains 547.

  • 98 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 39 are in serious condition. 78.58% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

  • 10 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

  • A total of 40,586 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

  • 94 (positivity rate: 0.23%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 118,957.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

No deaths of COVID-19 patients were recorded. Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 remains 547, of which:

  • 349 men (64%), and
  • 198 women (36%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.3 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 98 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 39 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 39 patients who are in serious condition, 17 are intubated in an Intensive Care Unit and 22 in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail, the situation in the hospitals is the following:

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 40,586 diagnoses performed, 4,734 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 35,852 by the antigen rapid test method, 94 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 3 cases from 51 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 9 cases from 2,998 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 20 cases from 1,315 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 11 cases from 308 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 26 cases from 13,987 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 25 cases from 21,865 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 58 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 4 samples taken from the control of closed structures.
