78 NEW CASES, ONE DEATH - Sunday

One person has died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 552, according to a statement from the Ministry of Health.

Good news for today's cases as 78 (positivity rate: 0.19%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 119,767.

79 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 29 are in serious condition. 76.2% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

11 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

A total of 40,466 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The one person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:

  • A woman, aged 89, who ended up today at the Famagusta General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 552, of which:

  • 350 men (63%), and
  • 202 women (37%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.4 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 79 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 29 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 29 patients who are in serious condition, 14 are intubated, two are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 13 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail, the situation in the hospitals is the following:

C. Positive cases ofCOVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 40,466 diagnoses performed, 4,900 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 35,566 by the antigen rapid test method, 78 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 9 cases from 158 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 7 cases from 2,919 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 9 cases from 1,487 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 2 cases from 259 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 8 cases from 76 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 22 cases from 14,389 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 21 cases from 21,177 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 1 sample taken from the closed structures check.
