295 NEW CASES, ONE DEATH - Saturday

One more person has died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 513, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Health.

133 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 43 are in serious condition. 84.22% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

16 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

A total of 55,492 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test, of which 295 (positivity rate: 0.53%) of the disease were identified.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The one person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:

  • A man, aged 77, who ended up on September 3rd in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 513, of which:

  • 332 men (65%), and
  • 181 women (35%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.4 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 133 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 43 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 43 patients who are in serious condition, 18 are intubated, five are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 20 are in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 55,492 diagnoses made today, 5,956 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 49,536 by the antigen rapid test method, 295 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 52 cases from 366 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 9 cases from 2,670 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 71 cases from 2,620 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 6 cases from 76 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 2 cases from 209 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special groups through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 104 cases from 35,096 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 51 cases from 14,440 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 5 samples taken in the context of a closed structure check.
  • 10 samples taken as part of a sample check at the Port.
