287 NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS - Tuesday

Another two people have died due to coronavirus, according to the Ministry of Health, while another 287 new cases of the virus have been identified.

Specifically:

  • Two people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 503.
  • 138 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 54 are in serious condition. 78.99% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 16 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.
  • A total of 50,341 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 287 (positivity rate: 0.57%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 113,875.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:

  • Woman, aged 59, who died on August 26 at Nicosia General Hospital.
  • Man, aged 84 years, who died on August 30 at the Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 503, of which:

  • 325 men (65%), and
  • 178 women (35%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.5 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 138 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 54 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 54 patients who are in serious condition, 22 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 29 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 50,341 diagnoses made today, 6,424 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 43,917 by the antigen rapid test, 287 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 35 cases from 341 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 4 cases from 2,717 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 79 cases from 2,914 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 8 cases from 221 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case from 213 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Doctors and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 1 case from 18 samples taken as part of a closed structure check.
  • 109 cases from 30,191 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 50 cases from 13,726 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
