The Ministry of Health announces that today, September 1, 2021, four people have died from coronavirus, including a man aged 41, while 256 are the new cases of the disease. At the same time, 137 patients are hospitalized, of which 49 are in serious condition.
Specifically:
- Four people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 507.
- 137 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 49 are in serious condition. 81.76% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
- 16 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.
- A total of 44,920 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 256 (positivity rate: 0.57%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 114,131.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The four people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:
- A woman, aged 83, who ended up on August 31st at Nicosia General Hospital.
- A man, aged 75, who ended up on August 31st in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
- A woman, aged 78, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
- A man, aged 41, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 507, of which:
- 327 men (64.5%), and
- 180 women (35.5%).
The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.4 years.
B. Hospitalized:
In total, 137 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 49 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 49 patients who are in serious condition, 18 are intubated, five are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 26 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 44,920 diagnoses performed today, 5,570 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 39,350 by the antigen rapid test, 256 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:
- 24 cases from 287 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
- 6 cases from 2,408 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
- 53 cases from 2,552 samples taken through private initiative.
- 14 cases from 196 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 105 cases from 25,729 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
- 54 cases from 13,621 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- 127 samples taken as part of a closed structure check.
