235 NEW CASES, ONE DEATH - Thursday

The Ministry of Health announces that today, September 2, 2021, one person has died from COVID-19, while 235 are the new cases of the disease. At the same time, 134 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 45 are in serious condition.

Specifically:

- One person died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 508.

- 134 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 45 are in serious condition. 79.11% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

- 17 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

- A total of 52,758 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

- 235 (positivity rate: 0.45%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 114,366.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The one person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:

- Woman, aged 83 years, who ended up today at Larnaka General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 508, of which:

- 327 men (64%), and

- 181 women (36%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.5 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 134 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 45 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 45 patients who are in serious condition, 19 are intubated, four are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 22 in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail, the situation in the hospitals is the following:

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 52,758 diagnoses performed today, 4,910 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 47,848 by the antigen rapid test, 235 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 18 cases from 121 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 9 cases from 2,428 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 42 cases from 2,121 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 6 cases from 194 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 115 cases from 36,201 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 45 cases from 11,647 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 36 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 10 samples taken as part of a closed structure check.

In detail, the rapid antigen tests through the ministry of health's program were carried out today as follows:
