145 NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS - Thursday

Two people have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 550, according to the Ministry of Health.

As it says in a statement, 80 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 34 are in serious condition. 74.12% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.

At the same time, 12 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.

According to the announcement, a total of 57,324 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.

145 (positivity rate: 0.25%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 119,481.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The one person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, relate to:

- A man, aged 82 years, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

- Woman, aged 75 years, who ended up today in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 550, of which:

- 350 men (64%), and

- 200 women (36%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.3 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 80 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 34 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 34 patients who are in serious condition, 12 are intubated, four are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 18 are in an Increased Care Unit.

In detail, the situation in the hospitals is the following:

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 57,324 diagnoses performed, 5,561 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 51,763 by the antigen rapid test method, 145 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 31 cases from 250 samples taken through the process of contact tracing of already confirmed cases.
  • 3 cases from 2,572 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 26 cases from 2,540 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 3 cases from 165 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 63 cases from 29,843 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 19 cases from 21,920 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.

In addition, the following tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 31 samples taken in the framework of the referral program by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 3 samples taken from the control of closed structures.
