136 NEW CASES, ONE DEATH - Saturday

Another death due to coronavirus was announced today by the Ministry of Health, while in the last 24 hours 136 new positive cases of the virus were identified.

Specifically:

  • One person died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 528.
  • 106 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 43 are in serious condition. 83.97% of hospitalized patients have no history of vaccination.
  • 8 post-COVID patients who have ceased to be infectious (declassified cases), continue to be hospitalized intubated in a serious condition due to COVID in Intensive Care Units.
  • A total of 70,628 tests have been performed to detect the disease using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
  • 136 (positivity rate: 0.19%) new cases of COVID-19 were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 117,831.

Today's results are detailed.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The one person who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concerns:

  • A woman, aged 64, who ended up on September 10th in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with a final cause of COVID-19 is 528, of which:

  • 339 men (64%), and
  • 189 women (36%).

The average age of those voted by the disease is 76.4 years.

B. Hospitalized:

In total, 106 covid-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of the CySEC, of which 43 are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.

Of the 43 patients who are in serious condition, 16 are intubated, two are hospitalized in an off-ventilator Intensive Care Unit and 25 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive cases of COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):

Of the 70,628 diagnoses made today, 4,584 were made by the molecular method (PCR) and 66,044 by the antigen rapid test method, 136 cases of COVID-19 were identified, resulting as follows:

  • 6 cases from 2,202 samples taken in the context of passenger screening at Larnaka and Paphos Airports.
  • 37 cases from 2,220 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 6 cases from 162 samples taken from the Microbiology Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 62 cases from 51,614 samples tested by the antigen rapid test in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 25 cases from 14,430 samples tested by the antigen rapid test method through the Ministry of Health's programme.
